Walmart fined for pricing violations

Walmart Canada was fined more than $27,000 after it plead guilty to 11 counts of violating provincial consumer protection laws, announced the Quebec Consumer Protection Office.

The retail giant had failed to place price tags on merchandise that clearly and readably indicated their price at one of its outlets in Montreal, said the Office. Walmart was also found to have neglected to post its exact pricing policy in clear view for consumers at the store’s cash registers and price readers. The infractions took place on September 2013.

In 2010 Walmart was fined by the Office $32,510 for failing to properly price its merchandise.

Walmart Canada, which will be laying off an unspecified amount of employees following restructuring, employed about 91,000 employees as of October 2016. The company operates 410 stores in Canada, according to its website.
